Budget minded travelers are always on the lookout for the best deals on discount hotels. The following 20 are the cheapest I could find based on cleanliness, comfort, air conditioning, television and complimentary WiFi access.

1. Travelodge Inns, Hotels & Suites

All have basic accommodations, pet-friendly policies, and Sleepy Bear’s Den rooms catering to families. Price range: $40 to $75.

2. Days Inn

Provides all the basics. Price range: $40 to $80. Days Inn has the best selection of hotels and rates.

3. Comfort Inn, Quality Inn (Choice Hotels International)

Price range: $50 to $90, free deluxe continental breakfast and local calls.

4. Ramada Inn

Properties vary considerably from location to location. Some are very nice; some are not as nice. Price range: $40 to $80. Save 20% when you stay 3 nights or more at Ramada hotels! Plus, earn Wyndham Rewards points or airline miles.

5. Microtel Inns & Suites

A pet-friendly hotel chain. The newer hotels feature guestrooms with flat-panel televisions, granite countertops, desk units equipped with power and data ports, and free wi-fi.

6. Howard Johnson

There aren’t many locations, but if you find one, it will be budget priced. Price Range: $40 to $80. Kids stay free! Plus, you’ll enjoy a complimentary breakfast and free high speed internet.

7. Super 8

Super 8 gives you all the basics, sometimes more. Price range: $35 to $60.

8. Sleep Inn and Sleep Inn & Suites (Choice Hotels International)

Price range: $50 to $90, free continental breakfast. high-speed Internet access, and oversized work area.

9. Red Roof Inn

Like so many other discount chains on this page, Red Roof gives you the basic amenities. Nothing more, nothing less. Price range: $40 to $60.

10. Motel 6

This chain offers economical accommodations with free morning coffee, non-smoking and pet-friendly rooms. Price range $40 to $60. Rates can get as low as $26.99 during certain promotions.

11. Studio 6

This chain is the extended stay version of Motel 9. Stay here as long as you like and enjoy a fully equipped kitchen, along with a separate living and sleeping area. Rates start at $50/night.

12. Rodeway Inn (Choice Hotels International)

Price range: $45 to $70, free deluxe continental breakfast and local calls, caters to senior travelers.

13. Knights Inn

Has basic accommodations. Price range: $35 to $70.

14. Best Western

They sometimes offers a bit more than the basics such as a restaurant or cocktail lounge. Price Range $40 to $80.

15. Fairfield Inns

These are the budget hotels offered by the Marriott Corporation. The properties are usually very nice and inexpensive. Price Range $40 to $65.

16. Courtyard by Marriott

Courtyard is a mid-level accommodation offering from Marriott. Prices range from $50 to $100. They offer everything a business traveler needs.

17. SpringHill Suites

Another offering from Marriott. This one has nice studio suites with good living space. Amenities include data ports, mini-refrigerators, microwave ovens and coffee makers. Rooms range from $70 to $140.

16. TownPlace Suites

Yet another Marriott-owned chain. This one is for extended stays, with better rates for longer bookings. The properties have large, comfortable rooms with full kitchens, on-site laundry, swimming pools, high-speed internet access, and allow pets. Rooms range from $70 to $130.

17. Extended Stay Hotel

Another extended stay oriented hotel, they have over 608 locations in North America. Rooms include fully-equipped kitchens, cable TV, wireless Internet access and on-site guest laundry. Room rates from $59.

18. La Quinta Hotels.

Quaint, comfortable. Modern televisions, A/C and fast WiFi in each room. Price range: $50 to $80/night.

19. Holiday Inn Express

These ultra modern hotels are less expensive than Holiday Inns. They offer a free breakfast bar with fresh fruit, cereals and pastries, as well as free local calls within the U.S. Price range: $69 to $119.

20. Hampton Inn

They have many new properties so the accommodations are usually nice with comfortable bedding and a free continental breakfast that’ll do the trick. Complimentary shuttle service at hotels located near airports. Price range: $89 and up.
